Wired Announces MasonIP Professional Decoder

Mason IPAt the NAB show in 2006, we previewed our forthcoming MasonIPâ„¢ decoder system. The MasonIP is a professional quality network-attached video decoder which delivers unmatched flexibility and image quality for the most demanding playback and proofing applications.

The MasonIP can decode virtually every flavor of standard and high-definition video, including MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4, Windows Media, AVC, VC-1, H.264 and DIVX and output it to the display device of your choice. It can also playback VIDEO_TS folders and VOB files, making it ideal for proofing your DVD projects. Featuring component, s-video and DVI video outputs, along with AES/EBU, SPDIF, Toslink, and stereo RCA output for audio, the Mason decoder can be easily integrated into your production environment or theatre.

Control and configuration can be done using the remote control and simple on-screen menus, or handled remotely via web browser or terminal applications. The MasonIP will be available in Spring 2007. In addition, for custom applications, Wired’s engineering group can tailor the features, functions and outputs of the Mason IP to your special needs.

I need MPEG-1 power for a worldwide video distribution to be seen at 35,000 feet in the air…Lets discuss set up. Thanks.

When do you plan to have an add-in board that supports MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4, Windows Media, AVC, VC-1, H.264 and DIVX?

  3. Mike Evangelist Says:

Fatsman – we already have such a board; it’s the Mason HD. It is currently available to OEM customers for use in Linux-based systems.

  4. Movie Fan Says:

What makes this better than the cheapo devices that let you play MPEG and VIDEO_TS folders off a server?

  5. Mike Evangelist Says:

Movie Fan – There are two big areas where the Mason IP is superior to typical media-player boxes:

    • Higher quality in every aspect of its design and construction. Pro-grade components, circuit design and layout that is optimized for output quality (rather than reducing production costs), and a high capacity non-switching power supply (no stupid wall-warts here.)
    • Our control software and UI (user interface) is much more refined, making it easier to find the item(s) you want to play and to navigate them while they are playing. Our goal is to deliver the best network playback experience for MPEG files and VIDEO_TS content.

If you’re building a proofing station or the ultimate home theatre, the Mason IP will blow you away.
